"High Performance Composites - The Way Ahead" - 10th
Annual Technical Conference, 2010
The 10
th UK and Ireland Chapter Annual Technical Conference will be
held on 24
th Feb 2010 at the Belfry Hotel, Nottingham.
This will address advances in materials and manufacturing technologies that are essential to
secure continued success for high performance composites. We will also host a table-top
exhibition for innovative SMEs who offer cutting edge solutions. Click here for full

November 2009
Annual Student Seminar
SAMPE UK and Ireland Chapter, in collaboration with the British Composites Society
(a division of the Institute of Materials, Minerals and Mining), held their Annual Student
Seminar on Tuesday 24 November 2009 at IOM3 HQ in London. From an excellent field of ten
students two were selected to represent the UK at the SAMPE Europe Student Seminar -
Yusuf Mahadik (University of Bristol) for the Ed Trewin Prize and Craig Smith (University
of Birmingham) for the JEC Environmental Award. A full report can be found

SAMPE Europe Technical Conference
The 4
th
SAMPE Europe Technical Conference was held from 17
th to
18
th September, 2009 at the Tortworth Court Three Pillars
Hotel, Bristol.
The conference was a resounding success, with
excellent presentations and a "full house" of delegates and exhibitors. Click here for

Obituary for Ed Trewin
Many in the carbon fibres and composites world will be sad to learn of
the death on 2
nd April, 2009 of Ed Trewin at the age of 64
years. He had battled courageously with motor neuron disease over the
previous two years. Full obituary can be found

SAMPE
announces YOUNG MEMBERS' TRAVEL GRANTS
SAMPE UK and Ireland chapter has
initiated a new travel grant for young members of the chapter to
assist them in attending national and international conferences as well
as to visit other
university / centre of excellence for a brief period. An application
form can
be found here. Once completed, this
should be submitted to the secretary.
